In this mass study, 30 rats (12 weeks old and weighing around 150 grams) were divided into different groups and were treated with bee venom for three weeks. They were given saline, carboxymethylcellulose, BV, and hesperidin – all in different combinations and ratios. It was finally found that bee venom controlled the induced arthritis in rats. The reason being, hesperidin and bee venom generated ameliorative effect via their anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory and antioxidant properties.
Modulation of Alpha 1-Acid Glycoprotein (AGP) Gene Induction Following Honey Bee Venom Administration to Adjuvant Arthritic (AA) Rats; Possible Role of AGP on AA Development
It was found that HBV, when administered to the adjuvant arthritic rats helped in suppressing hepatic acute phase alpha 1-acid glycoprotein and arthritis. Whereas, administering AGP, in adjuvant arthritic rats, led to an increase in the duration and severity of arthritis. This shows that the AGP gene expression in HBV and AA treated AA rats certainly involves different factors and AGP demonstrates a prominent role in the development of AA in rats.
Electroacupuncture Inhibits Inflammation Reaction by Upregulating Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide in Rats with Adjuvant-Induced Arthritis
EA treatment is done at Shenshu and Zusanli on rats (nearly 5 weeks old), divided into five groups for clinical study, revealed that regular dose of bee venom helped in decreasing: inflammation, paw edema and even bodyweight of rats having arthritis. The results of 15-day treatment showed that proper technique of injecting EA could help control various symptoms of arthritis. It is concluded that in rats with collagen-induced arthritis, BV acupuncture treatment relieved inflammatory pain and showed promising improvement.
To facilitate RA patients in the long run, it is important to explore all alternative therapy options for RA and conduct further studies.
