BEE VENOM FOR THE SKIN - DERMATOLOGY

The skin is vital to our health and our general well-being. Apart from the fact that the skin is the body's first line of defense against bacteria and viruses, healthy skin looks to maintain fluid balance and facilitates body temperature regulation. It is very sensitive and can feel the lightest touch as well as pain. Because the skin is our largest and most visible body, covering almost 2m² and being close to one sixth of our body weight, its condition can also have a significant impact on our self-esteem.

Role of Different Layers of Skin

Skin is composed of three different layers. Let us see what the importance of these layers is.
  1. Epidermis – is the outermost layer of skin, which is responsible for our skin tone and acts as a waterproof barrier. Melanocytes, special cells, determine the color of our skin through the production of melanin.
  2. Dermis – it is located right under the epidermis and consists of sweat glands, hair follicles, and various connective tissues
  3. Hypodermis – it is located right under the dermis and is composed of connective tissues that connect dermis with the body and also stores fat.
Above stated, are the three main layers. Each layer has its sub-layers and their respective functions.

Different Functions of the Skin
The skin has numerous functions, let us have a look at its amazing functions.
It offers protection – our skin is responsible for protecting us against pathogens. The Langerhans cells are also located in the epidermis and are a part of the skin immune system.
It acts as a store – our skin is responsible for storing water and lipids.
Its acts as a sensor – our skin is responsible for transmitting different sort of signals through sensitive nerve endings. These nerves can sense any sort of injury, slightest touch, vibration, pressure and even changes in temperature.
It controls loss of water – our skin is responsible for keeping our body hydrated by preventing any sort of loss of water through evaporation.
It offers water resistance – our skin is responsible for preserving nutrients inside the body from being washed away.
It controls temperature – our skin is responsible for regulating the body temperature through dilating blood vessels and sweat glands. Ever experienced the Goosebumps? Yeah, that is when blood vessels constrict and retain heat.
