BEE VENOM TREATMENT FOR LYME DISEASE (BORRELIA BURGDORFERI)
Lyme borreliosis is a bacterial infection spread through ticks. It is believed that about one-third of the ticks carry bacteria that can cause Lyme disease. Approximately 1 tick bite of 150 gives a borrelia infection. The borrelia infection usually begins in the skin and if it is not treated there is a risk that the bacteria will move on to the nervous system or to the joints.
If the borrelia bacteria moves on to the nervous system you can get so-called neuroborreliosis, this infection can occur several months after the bite. Approximately one-sixth of all those receiving a borrelia infection receive neuroborreliosis. Common symptoms are pain, usually at night, which does not go away even if you are taking painkillers. It also happens that the face becomes partially paralyzed.
Neuroborreliosis is the most common bacterial cause of meningitis in both children and adults. Meningitis can cause symptoms such as fever, nausea, headache and neck stiffness. Immediate treatment is important as the consequences of neuroborreliosis can be serious with paralysis and brain effects.
The borrelia bacterium can also settle in the joints. Common symptoms are that you get joint and muscle pain and that the aches move in the body. Borrelia bacteria can also cause borrelia arthritis, a joint inflammation that causes different joints in the body to swell. Usually, the knee joint is affected and the swelling often passes by itself after a few days or weeks. The swelling can come back in different periods and often joints and muscles occur between these periods. In the worst case, joint inflammation can become chronic if it is not treated.
